The First Week of School: An Islamic Classroom Setup Guide

By Ustadha Khadijah7min read

Day-by-day plan for the opening week — routines, relationships and rules rooted in adab.

Day 1 — Welcome and belonging: names, seat greetings, one classroom dua learned together. Day 2 — Routines: entry, lineup, book distribution, attention signals — rehearsed as games. Day 3 — Rights and responsibilities: build the class charter from the language of huquq, not just rules. Day 4 — Learning identity: "what kind of learners do we want to be?" — set the year's academic adab. Day 5 — Community: first journal entry, parent note home, and the teacher's own weekly tazkiyah plan.

The first week teaches students what to expect for the whole year: warmth with structure, mercy with clarity.
